FRASER ISLAND LEMONS (To the Editor.) Sir.-I think it would not be just to let the leter in "Colonist" pass without a reply, as it is very misleading. The fact of the matter is, the lemon tree spoken of was twelve inches high, when I landed there five years ago, and had been there a few years then. It looked very miserable. I have taken a deal of care of it, and also washed it several times for the blight. Fruit trees will not do well there when left alone, as we have proved it by one orange two mango trees. They are still there, but that's about all. The mango we planted four years ago, the orange was there before I arrived. The toss of a coin decided the chairmanship at a meeting of the committee of the Gympie centre ot the Queensland Ambulance Transport Brigade last night. Two committee men, Messrs. E. E. Lister and W. English, were nominated for the position. Both had served equal terms on the committee. and rather than put the issue to a vote it was jokingly suggested that they should toss a penny. The suggestion was taken up, and Mr. P. H. Bundersen spun the coin. - Mr. Lister won the toss and the chairmanship. There was an outstanding balance of 3d, and Mr. Sanday said jocularly that it could be paid in 1940. • Obituary: 18 May 1944, Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser, Queensland; OBITUARY MR. PETER H. BUNDESEN: As befitted an honoured citizen, who had given long and valuable service to the community, general regret was expressed in Gympie on Monday at the passing away of Mr. P. H. Bundesen, resident of Beaconsfield-street, Gympie. After about seven weeks' illness in the Gympie General Hospital, during which he underwent two operationns, he succumbed to heart failure after the second of these, at about 11.30 o'clock on Sunday night, at the age of 68 years. Deceased was born at Ross (N.Z.) in 1876. He came to Australia with his parents when a boy and spent his early years with them on a farm at Netherby (Tiaro District). He became apprenticed to the coopering and carpentering trade in Maryborough, and at the age of 21, he went to New Guinea, prospecting for gold. Returning after after about 18 months, he engaged in mining in Gympie. A few years later he married Miss Kate Sundstrup of Gympie, and then took up farming on his own account at Netherby. On giving up the farm because of the big drought of 1907, the late Mr. Bundesen went to Fraser Island as timber getter, and about 1912 returned to Maryborough, to work as a carpenter and contractor. In May 1937, he went back to Gympie, where his wife passed away. During his residence in Gympie he carried on business as building contractor. In 1921 he married Mrs. M. Burchard, who survives him. For approximately 20 years Mr. Bundesen was Prisedent of the Gympie branch of the A.L.P., which position he still held at the time of his death, and was a steadfast and outspoken upholder of the Labour movement. He is survived by his widow and three sons. Messrs. Leslie (Brisbane), Alfred (Gympie), and Bertel (Mackay), and Lawrence Burchard (step-son). Ross is a small town located on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island.
It lies 27 kilometres south-west of Hokitka and 46 kilometres north-east of Harihari, State Highway passes through Ross on its route from Ruatapu south to Pukekura, Harihari, and further south, the Franz Josef Glacier.
The town's chief industries are farming and forestry. Ross was an important centre during the West Coast goldrush of the 1860s. Since 1988 a large open cast mine has operated adjacent to the town [Source Wikepedia]

The Kawarau River flows through the gorge, which is located between the towns of Queenstown and Cromwell, and part of the route of State Highway 6 also follows the gorge.[1] The gorge begins some 30 kilometres from Queenstown, close to the wine-growing community of Gibbston and the large rock outcrop known as the Nevis Bluff. • Interests: 16 Jul 1890, The Brisbane Courier, Queensland; FLOOD The effects of the late flood on the land along the river bank, are continually cropping up (says the Maryborough Chronicle) in the way of landslips, whereby the owner of the land is often deprived of a considerable portion of his holding. The last of these slips last week, when Mr Jones, of Yengerie, lost a well - laid - out vegetable garden situated on Myrtle Creek, the land going bodily into the creek. another effect of the flood was to bury farm implements to a great depth. Mr P.P. Bundesen of Gootchie recovered one of his scarifiers 30 ft below the surface. This farmer lost a considerable poition of his land some 15 acres, while a great portion of the remainder was covered with soil of a sandy nature fiom 10ft to 30ft in depth. During the floods of January and February last, besides losing the whole of his growing crops, a very large portion of his land was completely swept away, while the remainder was rendered almost useless by reason of the very great deposit of land left thereon, in some places to a depth of 30 feet. At midnight on Thursday last, or early on Friday morning, Mr Bundesen was again a heavy sufferer; on this occasion his dwelling and nearly the whole of the contents being destroyed by fire. It is supposed the fire originated in the kitchen, as when Mrs Bundesen and family were aroused this building was completely destroyed, and the dwelling in flames. A most unusual affair in connection with fires now-a-days is that fact that the property destroyed was not insured. FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT October 24 One could hardly expect to meet with much enthusiasm in this quiet unpretentious corner; but the ball held in Mr. P. P. Bundesen's spacious barn was a pleasant surprise to those who have been hibernating for some time. It was in celebration of the winding up for the season of our dancing assembly that this excellent display was made. The votaries of Terpsichore to the number of 27 couples faced the music, and were piloted by Mr. C. Andersen, of Miva, a very genial and affable M. C., to whom many of the young people of this locality can be grateful for their improved deportment. Musicians seemed numerous, and much praise is due to those who entertained us with acordians, picolo,(A. P. Olson), violin (A. Slmpion), and concertina. Refreshments with concomitant comestibles were handed round at very short intervals during the night, thanks to the assiduity of Mesdames. P. Bundesen, Jossen, and Birt, through whose efforts at the commissirait we fared sumptuously. During respite, humorous and sentimental songs were contributed extempore by Mises M. Bundesen, Anderson, Messrs. Bradshaw, Sheehan, Wagner, Payne, Simpson, and others. Messrs. Dradtbaw, Simpson, and Payee sang in character, the last two as niggers. [From our own correspondent] On the 3rd of January we had a heavy thunderstorm with rain and heavy hailstones. The ground was almost covered with hailstones, which did a great deal ot damage to all the young corn. It was stripped as if It had been done with forks. Not a single leaf of tobacco is left sound. It is all cut into holes and rags. The laat couple of days the weather has been fine. The atmosphere still keeps hot, and heavy cloud, hanging about. The hailstorm did not do much damage to the early crops as it is almost all ready to pull, which the farmers ought to be thankful for. It is time for the farmers, to prepare land for wheat and potatoes, and also for the farmers to lookout for some good seed wheat. I think that it would be a wise thing for the farmers to send to Victoria for seed. I intend to send for Talavera and Purple Staw. • Personal: 30 Jul 1914, Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser, Queensland; A DEBORAH PRESENTATION A pleasant gathering in the shape of a surprise party took place at Mr and Mrs Bundesen's residence on Wednesday last, when the people (both young and old) gathered from all round the district to say good-bye to Mr and Mrs Bundesen. While the billy was boiling the people indulged in games on the grass, and after a substantial lunch had been partaken of, Mr and Mrs Bundesen were presented with a beautiful silver coffee pot. Mr Thompson, in making the presentation, said he had been asked to perform a duty that day which was by no means a pleasant one, as it menat parting with two old friends, and parting with friends was always hard; but such was the way of life - the best of friends would have to part sooner or later. And, on behalf of all Deborah people, he wished them good-bye, and in their new home long life, good health and happiness and prosperity. He then made the presentation to Mrs Bundesen, and said he wanted her to make coffee in it every day, and while they were drinking the coffee, the pot would remind them of the friends they had left behind. When Mr Bundesen rose to reply, the old gentleman was visibly affected. He thanked their many friends very much for the kind regards, and said they felt the parting very much. Games were again played till evening, when another lunch was partaken of, and the young people wound up with a dance in the barn till 12 o'clock. Mr and Mrs Bundesen came to Queensland with their young family from New Zealand about 32 years ago, and have resided here ever since, their occupation being farming and dairying. The family are all married and living elsewhere. Mr and Mrs Bundesen go to Pialba, where they will live a quiet, retired life for the future. • Obituary: 09 Jan 1915, The Maryborough Chronicle, Maryborough, Queensland; OBITUARY The many friends of Mr Peter Petersen Bundesen will be grieved to hear of his death, which took place at St. Mary's Hospital last evening. The deceased, who was a very old and highly respected resident pioneer of the district , was a native of Denmark, whence he left for New Zealand in the year 1861. After sojourning in that country for some 22 years, he travelled across to Queensland, and took up his residence at Netherby, near Tiaro, where he had followed the farming industry until a couple of months ago, when he retired and, with his wife, went to live at Pialba, his was a disposition that gained many friends, and his end, though it was not entirely unexpected; nevertherless will be sincerely mourned. Desceased was in his 76th. year. He leaves behind a widow , three daughters and one son to mourn their loss, namely Mesdames F. Jessen ( Coolabunia), E Jensen (Pialba), W Merrin (Gympie), and Mr. Peter H. Bundesen ( Tinana), to whom the hand of sympathy is extended in their hour of tribulation. In the year 1861 he arrived in New Zealand, and, after 22 years residnce there, came to Queensland, and lived in the Tiaro district until recently. IMMIGRANTS BY THE FRIEDEBURG.
The first shipment of immigrants direct from Germany arrived in Port Lyttelton on Saturday last. The fine iron ship Friedeburg, Captain Kopper, made the passage from Hamburg in 102 days, and it is very satisfactory to , report that the immigrants have arrived at their destination in excellent health and spirits.
The ship was signalled outside the heads on Friday afternoon, but the name of the vessel could notc be ascertained until the following day. This fact suggests the urgent necessity that exists for the establishment of telegraphic communication between the Godley Head lighthouse, the signal station, and the telegraph offico in Lyttelton. The expense would not be very great, in fact it would appear as trifling contrasted withh the utility of the work. The lighthouse-keeper could soon be instructed in the art, so that the names of vessels could be telegraphed to Lyttelton and Christchurch immediately upon the signals being made out.
His Honor the Deputy-Superintendent, Mr J. E. March (Chief Immigration Officer), Dr Haast, Mr Ruddenklau, and Mr Monson left Christchurch for Lyttelton by the half-past eight o'clock train. Messrs Ruddenklau and Monson proceeded to port in the capacity of interpreters ? the former as between the Government officials and the German immigrants, and the latter as interpreter between the officials and the Danes and Norwegians. Tho party was joined in Lyttelton by Drs Donald and Rouse and Captain Gibson, who, together with Mr March, are tho Immigration Commissioners for the province. The s.s. Gazello, Capt McLellan, was chartered to take the party to the vessel. The Gazelle started about 10 o'clock, taking the Ben Moro in tow, but some delay was occasioned through the barque getting fast on a bank, which has formed a short distance from the wharf. As soon as she was got off, she was towed to the middle of the stream and left there, and the Gazelle proceeded to the ship, which was lying at anchor two miles outside the North Head. On approaching the vessel, the flag flying at the stern bespoke her country, and there was no longer any doubt as to her being the Freideburg. Drawing nearer the immigrants were mounted on the bulwarks of the ship anxiously awaiting our arrival, and the chorus of a cluster of single women on the pocp settled the point as to their nationality. Seen from the deck of the Gazelle, the large group of immigrants presented a somewhat novel spectacle. Three or four nations were there represented ? the G«rmanic,t heGennanic Polish, tho Norwegian, and the Danish, all chattering away in the language and dialects of their respective countries. Dr Donald, as Health Officer, was the first to go on board, and as all was well, the whole party followed .shortly afterwards. The immigrants were in the veiy best of spirits, and spoke hopefully of the future in their adopted home. Unfortunately, not one of them could speak English, and they expressed a considerable amount of anxiety in consequence, but they were in a great measure consoled when told that there were several of their countrymen in the province, and that they would soon be able to pick up the language in a country where English was universally spoken. Among the immigrants there aro some who have won decorations for services in the field. One has been in the Holstein, Austrian, and Franco- German wars, and another in tho two latter campaigns.
The usual official inspection by the Immigration Commissioners was commenced shortly after going on board. Beginning with the single women's compartment, the muster roll was called over, and the girls were asked (through tho interpreters) whether they had any complaints to make. . Their general reply was that they had been well treated during the voyage. In the married couples' compartment, every, head of a family was asked separately if he had anything to complain of. In the majority of cases tho reply was a negative one, but there were a few who complained of the quality of the water and the insufficiency of diet served out to them. Dr Temple was asked to express his opinion with reference to tho dietary scale, and he said he thought the quantities of some of the items were too small. Amongst the married couples, one immigrant was pointed out as having walked from the Russian frontier to Hamburg (a distance of about 800 miles) with his wife and five or six children, sleeping at farm houses and oftentimes in the open air on their way to join the ship. It was a curious fact, that while those on one side of the vessel (Polish-Germans) complained about the insufficiency of food ; those on tho opposite side (Norwegians and Danes) expressed entire satisfaction. The former were asked how they could account for this, and their reply was that the latter were richer than themselves, and besides bringing more comforts with them, had money onough to enable them to procure what they wanted. The same thing, however, was noticeable in the single men's compartment ; here tho Danes and Norwegians were perfectly satisfied with their treatment on board, while a few of the Germans and Polish-Germans complained of the quality of the water and the insufficiency of the dietary scale. The captain and doctor speak very highly of the conduct of the Norwegians and Danes and most of his own countrymen during the voyage from Hamburg. We were pleased to observe the cleanliness of the ship in every part, and it is doubtless owing to the care taken in this respect that the health of the passengers has been so successfully maintained.
Speaking of the immigrants as a whole, they are undoubtedly a very good selection, and if they follow the excellent advice given to them by the two interpreters, they will have no reason to regret coming to New Zealand. Their ignorance of English will doubtless be a considerable disadvantage to them for some time, but they will not be long in acquiring a sufficient knowledge of the language to enable them to get along comfortably with those by whom they may be employed. It is probable that many of them will find employment from their own countrymen.
The Friedeburg sailed from Hamburg on the 18th of May, having on board 292 persons, representing 241 adults. On the voyage over, there was one death ? a child 11 months old ? and six births, thus increasing the number of souls to 297. Of this number 200 are above 12 years old, 82 are between 1 and 12 years, and 15 under 1 year. There are 61 single women, 33 single men, 53 married couples, and 97 children and infants, including the six born on the passage. With regard to nationalities, the numbers are as follows : ? Germans (including Polish), 102 persons above 12 years, 68 children and 5 infants ; Norwegians, 51 persons above 12 years, 5 children, and 3 infants ; Danes, 47 persons above 12 years, 9 children, aud 2 infants. This total of 10 infants does not include those born since the sailing of the ship. The ship is admirably adapted for the conveyance of immigrants, and is superior in many respects to the vessels that come from London. The height between decks is 8ft and 8ft (lin, the ventilation is good, but there is an insufficiency of light in all the compartments. Captain E. Kopper has made one trip to Queensland in the Friedeburg with 300 immigrants, and he is highly spoken of by those who have now reached Canterbury under his charge. The surgeon-superintendent, Dr D L. Temple, who speaks German very fluently and Danish moderately well, deserves to be complimented upon the healthy condition in which so many persons have reached their destination.
The immigrants will disembark after noon today, and will be conveyed by special train to Addington. The Barracks will be open to employers on Thursday. We are informed that at the Immigration Barracks no fewer than 90 applications for domestic servants have been received. Mr March has remained on board the ship smce Saturday, and will not leave until the disembarkation is completed. Messrs Ruddenklau and Morrison will act as interpreters during the stay of the immigrants at the Barracks

The Friedeburg sailed from Hamburg on May 21st ,- passed the Lizards on June the Ist ; crossed the line on June 23rd, but was detained by calms at Fernando Norunha for three days ; got the S.E. trades from the S. by E. ; had to stay several times on the coast of Brazil until past the Abruhas Shoals ; passed the longitude of the Cape on July 21st in 45deg. S. ; passed the Crozettes on July 30th, and Tasmania August 19th ; eastings were ran down in 48deg. to 50deg. ; then had light variable winds to sighting the Snares on Aug. 26th ; thence had variable winds, with rain and fog, until Aug. 30th: At 9.am. on thafc day Banks Peninsula was made, Godley Heads same day, and at 4 p.m. dropped anchor, making the passage from the Lizards in 90 days.

Hokitika is a small town in the West Coast region of New Zealand's South Island, 40 kilometres (25 mi) south of Greymouth, and close to the mouth of the Hokitika River.
Founded on gold mining in 1864, it was a centre of the West Coast Gold Rush. By late 1866, it was one of New Zealand's most populous centres. On 16 September 1867, there were 41 vessels alongside the wharf at Hokitika, in some places three and four deep. In 1867, the port of Hokitika ranked first in New Zealand in both the number of vessels entered inwards and in the total value of exports; principally gold.

They farmed out from Tiaro near Peter Andersen Bundesen and Andreas Thomsen and his second wife Caroline Mayer Thomsen.

The Jessen`s farmed directly across the Mary River from the Bundesens.

FUNERAL
The funeral of the late Mr. Peter Petersen Bundesen, which took place on Saturday last on the arrival of the train from the Nikenbah Railway Station to the Danish Chapel cemetery in that place, was largely attended by old friends in the neighbourhood, and from the Tiaro district, in which the late Mr. Bundesen had resided for many years past prior to his late residence in Pialba. Many floral and other tributes of sympathy were received by the sorrowing family. The pallbearers were Messers. P. Jensen, E. Jensen, A. Hansen, M. List. Mr. S. J. Horne officiated at the graveside. All the arrangements were carried out by Mr. J. Ammenhauser.

Peter Petersen Bundesen , aged 75 years and 11 months, died on 8th January 1915 in St. Mary's Hospital, Maryborough.
The cause of his death was Cirrhosis of Liver and Cardiac failure. The duration of his last illness was 3 weeks.
His parents were given as Peter Petersen, farmer and Botilde Jensen.
Peter was buried in the Nikenbah Cemetery on the 9th. January 1915.
His burial was certified by Martin List. The minister was S. J. horn, acting. The witnesses to his burial were E. N. Jensen and A. T. Hansen.
He was born in Denmark, and had lived in Queensland for 32 years.
Peter was married in Denmark at age 32 years to Christina Kreig.
The listd children were Matilda, aged 42, Christina, aged 40, Peter Henry aged 38 and Minnie aged 36 years. I female was deceased.

• Personal: 30 Jul 1914, Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser, Queensland; A DEBORAH PRESENTATION A pleasant gathering in the shape of a surprise party took place at Mr and Mrs Bundesen's residence on Wednesday last, when the people (both young and old) gathered from all round the district to say good-bye to Mr and Mrs Bundesen. While the billy was boiling the people indulged in games on the grass, and after a substantial lunch had been partaken of, Mr and Mrs Bundesen were presented with a beautiful silver coffee pot. Mr Thompson, in making the presentation, said he had been asked to perform a duty that day which was by no means a pleasant one, as it menat parting with two old friends, and parting with friends was always hard; but such was the way of life - the best of friends would have to part sooner or later. And, on behalf of all Deborah people, he wished them good-bye, and in their new home long life, good health and happiness and prosperity. He then made the presentation to Mrs Bundesen, and said he wanted her to make coffee in it every day, and while they were drinking the coffee, the pot would remind them of the friends they had left behind. When Mr Bundesen rose to reply, the old gentleman was visibly affected. He thanked their many friends very much for the kind regards, and said they felt the parting very much. Games were again played till evening, when another lunch was partaken of, and the young people wound up with a dance in the barn till 12 o'clock. Mr and Mrs Bundesen came to Queensland with their young family from New Zealand about 32 years ago, and have resided here ever since, their occupation being farming and dairying. IMMIGRANTS BY THE FRIEDEBURG.
The first shipment of immigrants direct from Germany arrived in Port Lyttelton on Saturday last. The fine iron ship Friedeburg, Captain Kopper, made the passage from Hamburg in 102 days, and it is very satisfactory to , report that the immigrants have arrived at their destination in excellent health and spirits.
The ship was signalled outside the heads on Friday afternoon, but the name of the vessel could notc be ascertained until the following day. This fact suggests the urgent necessity that exists for the establishment of telegraphic communication between the Godley Head lighthouse, the signal station, and the telegraph offico in Lyttelton. The expense would not be very great, in fact it would appear as trifling contrasted withh the utility of the work. The lighthouse-keeper could soon be instructed in the art, so that the names of vessels could be telegraphed to Lyttelton and Christchurch immediately upon the signals being made out.
His Honor the Deputy-Superintendent, Mr J. E. March (Chief Immigration Officer), Dr Haast, Mr Ruddenklau, and Mr Monson left Christchurch for Lyttelton by the half-past eight o'clock train. Messrs Ruddenklau and Monson proceeded to port in the capacity of interpreters ? the former as between the Government officials and the German immigrants, and the latter as interpreter between the officials and the Danes and Norwegians. Tho party was joined in Lyttelton by Drs Donald and Rouse and Captain Gibson, who, together with Mr March, are tho Immigration Commissioners for the province. The s.s. Gazello, Capt McLellan, was chartered to take the party to the vessel. The Gazelle started about 10 o'clock, taking the Ben Moro in tow, but some delay was occasioned through the barque getting fast on a bank, which has formed a short distance from the wharf. As soon as she was got off, she was towed to the middle of the stream and left there, and the Gazelle proceeded to the ship, which was lying at anchor two miles outside the North Head. On approaching the vessel, the flag flying at the stern bespoke her country, and there was no longer any doubt as to her being the Freideburg. Drawing nearer the immigrants were mounted on the bulwarks of the ship anxiously awaiting our arrival, and the chorus of a cluster of single women on the pocp settled the point as to their nationality. Seen from the deck of the Gazelle, the large group of immigrants presented a somewhat novel spectacle. Three or four nations were there represented ? the G«rmanic,t heGennanic Polish, tho Norwegian, and the Danish, all chattering away in the language and dialects of their respective countries. Dr Donald, as Health Officer, was the first to go on board, and as all was well, the whole party followed .shortly afterwards. The immigrants were in the veiy best of spirits, and spoke hopefully of the future in their adopted home. Unfortunately, not one of them could speak English, and they expressed a considerable amount of anxiety in consequence, but they were in a great measure consoled when told that there were several of their countrymen in the province, and that they would soon be able to pick up the language in a country where English was universally spoken. Among the immigrants there aro some who have won decorations for services in the field. One has been in the Holstein, Austrian, and Franco- German wars, and another in tho two latter campaigns.
The usual official inspection by the Immigration Commissioners was commenced shortly after going on board. Beginning with the single women's compartment, the muster roll was called over, and the girls were asked (through tho interpreters) whether they had any complaints to make. . Their general reply was that they had been well treated during the voyage. In the married couples' compartment, every, head of a family was asked separately if he had anything to complain of. In the majority of cases tho reply was a negative one, but there were a few who complained of the quality of the water and the insufficiency of diet served out to them. Dr Temple was asked to express his opinion with reference to tho dietary scale, and he said he thought the quantities of some of the items were too small. Amongst the married couples, one immigrant was pointed out as having walked from the Russian frontier to Hamburg (a distance of about 800 miles) with his wife and five or six children, sleeping at farm houses and oftentimes in the open air on their way to join the ship. It was a curious fact, that while those on one side of the vessel (Polish-Germans) complained about the insufficiency of food ; those on tho opposite side (Norwegians and Danes) expressed entire satisfaction. The former were asked how they could account for this, and their reply was that the latter were richer than themselves, and besides bringing more comforts with them, had money onough to enable them to procure what they wanted. The same thing, however, was noticeable in the single men's compartment ; here tho Danes and Norwegians were perfectly satisfied with their treatment on board, while a few of the Germans and Polish-Germans complained of the quality of the water and the insufficiency of the dietary scale. The captain and doctor speak very highly of the conduct of the Norwegians and Danes and most of his own countrymen during the voyage from Hamburg. We were pleased to observe the cleanliness of the ship in every part, and it is doubtless owing to the care taken in this respect that the health of the passengers has been so successfully maintained.
Speaking of the immigrants as a whole, they are undoubtedly a very good selection, and if they follow the excellent advice given to them by the two interpreters, they will have no reason to regret coming to New Zealand. Their ignorance of English will doubtless be a considerable disadvantage to them for some time, but they will not be long in acquiring a sufficient knowledge of the language to enable them to get along comfortably with those by whom they may be employed. It is probable that many of them will find employment from their own countrymen.
The Friedeburg sailed from Hamburg on the 18th of May, having on board 292 persons, representing 241 adults. On the voyage over, there was one death ? a child 11 months old ? and six births, thus increasing the number of souls to 297. Of this number 200 are above 12 years old, 82 are between 1 and 12 years, and 15 under 1 year. There are 61 single women, 33 single men, 53 married couples, and 97 children and infants, including the six born on the passage. With regard to nationalities, the numbers are as follows : ? Germans (including Polish), 102 persons above 12 years, 68 children and 5 infants ; Norwegians, 51 persons above 12 years, 5 children, and 3 infants ; Danes, 47 persons above 12 years, 9 children, aud 2 infants. This total of 10 infants does not include those born since the sailing of the ship. The ship is admirably adapted for the conveyance of immigrants, and is superior in many respects to the vessels that come from London. The height between decks is Bft and Bft (lin, the ventilation is good, but there is an insufficiency of light in all the compartments. Captain E. Kopper has made one trip to Queensland in the Friedeburg with 300 immigrants, and he is highly spoken of by those who have now reached Canterbury under his charge. The surgeon-superintendent, Dr D L. Temple, who speaks German very fluently and Danish moderately well, deserves to be complimented upon the healthy condition in which so many persons have reached their destination.
The immigrants will disembark after noon today, and will be conveyed by special train to Addington. The Barracks will be open to employers on Thursday. We are informed that at the Immigration Barracks no fewer than 90 applications for domestic servants have been received. Mr March has remained on board the ship smce Saturday, and will not leave until the disembarkation is completed. The following is Captain Kopper's report of the voyage :- The Friedeburg sailed from Hamburg on May 21st ,- passed the Lizards on June the Ist ; crossed the line on June 23rd, but was detained by calms at Fernando Norunha for three days ; got the S.E. trades from the S. by E. ; had to stay several times on the coast of Brazil until past the Abruhas Shoals ; passed the longitude of the Cape on July 21st in 45deg. S. ; passed the Crozettes on July 30th, and Tasmania August 19th ; eastings were ran down in 48deg. to 50deg. ; then had light variable winds to sighting the Snares on Aug. 26th ; thence had variable winds, with rain and fog, until Aug. 30th: At 9.am. on that day Banks Peninsula was made, Godley Heads same day, and at 4 p.m. dropped anchor, making the passage from the Lizards in 90 days.
