    • Enlistment: 20 Sep 1918, Brisbane, Qld; Claude Bate (Q24377) enlisted in the AIF in Brisbane on 20 September 1918 when he was 18 years 6 months old. He was a farming assistant at Maleny and was sole supporter of his mother. 2/6 per day was paid from Claude's army pay to his mother, Emily Elizabeth Bate who had given her permission to Claude's enlistment. He undertook his military training at Enoggera Army Base but records do not indicate if he served overseas. The Brisbane Courier, Thur. 17 Oct 1918, p4 MALENY, October 15. The returned soldiers of the district gave a public send-off to Private Claude Bate in the School of Arts, Maleny, on 10th instant. Mr J.D. Gay (chairman of the Landsborough Shire Council), on behalf of the returned soldiers, presented Private Bate with a wristlet watch and a gold medal. Miss Gertrude Bate fastened on the watch and medal, whilst the gathering sang "Soldiers of the King". Mr N Alcorn said, as a returned soldier, he felt it very keenly to see lads of only 18 1/2 years enlisting, when there were plenty of men 21years and upwards who could go. Mr Cooke, on behalf of the Patriotic Committee, presented Private Bate with a gold medal. Songs were rendered by Mrs Breusch, Miss I. Bryce, and Mr Findlay. The dance music was supplied by Miss I. Gorman, assisted by Mrs Breusch and Miss I. Cooke.
    • Accident: 22 Jul 1919, Maleny, Qld; The Brisbane Courier, Wed. 23 Jul 1919 p9 A Broken Thigh. Maleny, July 22. A young returned soldier, Claude Bate, had his thigh broken by a tree falling on him whilst he was engaged in scrub felling on Saturday. Dr Sampson attended the sufferer, and advised his removal to the Brisbane Hospital. The Ambulance car conveyed him to Landsborough early on Sunday morning.

Mr. Patte- more, who was bom in Somerset, England, came to Australia with his parents at the age of 5, by the sailing ship. Glory Hannah, and settled at Ulladulla, N.S.W. In the year 1871 he married Miss E. C. Organ, of Wollongong, at Ulladulla, and lived there for a number of years, and later at Cen- tral Tilba, N.S.W., carrying on the occu- pation of dairying. In 1906 Mr. and Mrs. Pattemore and family came to reside In Maleny, where they have lived ever since, still following the dairying occupation. They are the parents of seven children (six of whom are still living); grand- parents of 39, and great grandparents of 31 children. Mr. and Mrs. Pattemore who are still hale and hearty, are aged 81 and 80 years. Mrs. Berry (Ballina), who was Mrs. Pattemore's bridesmaid, was present at the gathering. The wedding cake was made by Mrs. C. Bate (daughter), and Iced by Mrs. J. Watts (granddaughter).
    • Birthday Celibration: 17 Aug 1941, Fairview, Maleny, Qld; MALENY. The oldest resident of Maleny Mr. J. R. Pattemore. of Fairview celebrated his 91st birthday last Sunday. Hs was born in Merriot. Somersetshire, and came to Aus-tralia with his parents when 5 years old in the sailing ship. Gloriana. The family settled at Shoalhaven. N.S.W. In 1907 Mr. Pattemore came to Maleny, where in 1908 he purchased a property, on which he began dairying and on which he lived ever since. members of the family attended lunch at his residence on Sunday, and a number of Mr. Pattemore's old friends were entertained at afternoon tea. They included Mr. J. Cork, who will be 90 next December; Mr. A.H.Cork, aged 80; and Mr. T. Porter, 66, all of Maleny. Mr. Pattemore has three sons - Messrs. H. S. (Maleny), R. W. (Brisbane), and E. Pattemore (Nambour) and three daughters - Mesdames Poole (Mooloolaba). Fitch (Nambour) and Forsyth (Maleny). 39 Grandchildren. 73 Great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.     FARMER LEAVES 145 DESCENDANTS

    Mr. John Robert Pattemore. of Maleny, who has died aged 97, is survived by 145 direct descendants. There are six children, 34 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren, iO great great grandchildren, and 7 great great great grandchildren. The late Mr. Pattemore came to Australia 90 years ago in the sailing ship Glorianna, a journey which took five and a half months. He settled in Ulladulla, on the south coast of New South Wales, and came to Queensland In 1907 and established a dairy farm at Maleny.
