    • SUDDEN DEATH OF CAPTAIN PAGE.

The many friends of Captain Page, of the Government steamer Otter, who has been a resident of Brisbane for a great number of years, will be shocked to learn that he was found dead in his bed a little after half past 7 o'clock last evening. Captain Page left his home in Fortescue street yesterday morning apparently in his usual health, and was seen by a number of persons on his way home at dinner-time, when he appeared in the best of spirits, although one or two noticed an indistinctness in his speech. He arrived at his home safely and had dinner, and the only thing that his wife noticed was that he was rather fidgety. Afterwards he went and lay down on his bed; he got up at tea time, but did not eat anything. Neither his wife nor any of his family noticed anything to cause alarm, and he returned to his bed again. He was heard to snore very heavily once or twice, and a little after 7.30 Mrs. Page and one of her daughters looked in at the door and saw him still dressed, lying on his back on the bed, with his left arm across his chest. They at once went in, and thinking him asleep tried to wake him, but finding all attempts futile, they sent for medical aid. Soon Dr. Thomson and Constable Kelly came in, and the doctor pronounced life to be extinct. He left, but some time afterwards returned with Dr. Wray, the Government medical official, and a careful examination of the body was then made, but last night the doctors would not say what was the cause of death. Dr. Thomson will give a certificate this morning. Latterly the captain had been enjoying very good health, although he had been in the hospital for about two months, suffering from a sore leg, but this was more than two months ago. The night before last he seemed to be rather cross, and complained of a pain over his heart, but his family did notpay much attention to this as he did not himself appear to attach much importance to it. He leaves a widow and a grown-up family of eight, including two married daughters. It is mentionod as a curious coincidence that a night or two ago a neighbour dreamed that she saw Captain Page's funeral, but she had no idea that her dream was to be so soon realised.

Captain Page was well known in Brisbane as the master of the Government steamer Kate, and latterly of the Otter. He was to have mado two trips down the Bay to-day. He entered the public service in February, 1871, and on 2nd July, 1885, was appointed to the command of the Otter.
