OBITUARY
There passed away at the General hospital yesterday an old and esteemed pioneer of the district, in the person of Mr. Jens Peter Berthelsen, in his 62nd. year. The deceased had only a day or to ago had undergone an operation at the Hospital, from which he never recovered, and his death came as a great blow not only to the immediate family circle, but to the residents of the district in which he had lived for so many years, and by whom he was greatly esteemed for his many stirling qualities. He was a native of Schleswig-Holstein, and came out to the colonies 27 years ago. He settled in the Nikenbah district, in the Upper Mountain road, where he had for many years been a successful farmer.
He leaves behind him a sorrowing widow and a family of five daughters and three sons, namely, Mesdames W. Jones (Bundaberg), F. Horton (Nikenbah), the Misses Mary Maetina, Ottiebena and Violet, residing at home, and Messers. Anton (Bingham), Bernhardt (Kingaroy), and Johann (Childers). The body was conveyed to Nikenbah last night by rail, Mr. J. Ammenhauser attending to the arrangements, and the funeral will leave deceased's late residence, for the Nikenbah cemetery this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock
