Day-Jeppesen
The Presbyterian Church at Emerald was the scene of a
pretty late afternoon wedding recently, when Rhonda, eldest
daughter of Mr and Mrs A. E. Jeppesen, Emerald, was married to Adam, younger son of Mr and Mrs W. G. Day, Emerald. Rev. Mr Stevens performed the ceremony. The Presbyterian Ladies' Guild decorated the church with lovely spring flowers, and Mrs C. Dennis, sen., was the organist.
On arrival at the church, the bride was presented with the symbol of good luck, a horseshoe in pink and white blooms by her little cousin, Jean Jeppesen.
The bride entered the church with her uncle, Mr V. Jeppesen. She made a charming picture in her Old World frock of white spotted net, mounted on organdie, satin over a stiffened underslip. The bodice was tight fitting with a V shaped waistline and an off the shoulder boat shaped neckline outlined with deep frilling, which formed the sleeves. The skirt featured tiny frilling from the waist to tiie floor-length hemline. For her headdress she wore an uncommon straw halo, in a high fan effect, with a double tier finger length veil of fine cut tulle. She carried a fan shaped bouquet of white roses, lilies, frangipani, carnations and fern, tied with satin ribbon.
For something "old" she added a hearted-shaped pendant of
her grandmother's, Miss Thelma Day, sister of the bridegroom, attended as bridesmaid. She wore a floor
length gown of pink floral satin, made with a full circular skirt, and shaped bodice The wide frilling round the off-the-shoulder neckline and large bustle bow were outlined in green to tone with floral material. Her headdress was similar to the bride's, and was trimmed with shoulder-length
green spotted net veiling. She added green mittens and he
bouquet was fan shaped, made of pink carnations, gerberas
roses and green fern, and tied with green ribbons.
Mr G. Day supported his brother as best man.
When departing from the church, the bride was presented with a white satin horsshoe from her small nephew David Wyer.
The reception was held at the CWA Rooms, which were decorated with pink and white streamers, and same colour
scheme was used for the shaped long tables. Mrs Jeppesen, mother of the bride, assisted by the bridegroom's mother, Mrs Day, received the guests. The former chose frock of pink embroidered linen, the pin-tucked bodice having a shaped yoke and three quarter sleeves. A blue shoulder posy, pink straw hat and navy accessories were added. Mrs Day chose a silk grey flat crepe, worn with navy edge-to-edge light summer weight coat and and blue accessories. Rev. Mr.
Stevens. Springsure, presided and the usual toasts were
musically honoured, with the addition of one for the two
grandmothers of the bridal couple, Mrs Matsen, aged 83,
grandmother of the bride, who came 20 miles the other side of Mackay for the wedding, and Mrs Day, sen., aged 72, from
Gympie.
The centre of attraction the bride's table was the three
tiered wedding cake, made and presented by the bride's aunt
Mrs Hansen, Eton, and iced by Miss Kushler, and finished with a crystal vase of pansies on the top tier. Mr Pat Walsh contributed several vocal solos and after
the breakfast community singing and dancing was enjoyed.
For her travelling frock, the bride wore a jumper suit
deep powder blue flat crepe, with black braided trimming.
She added black accessories.
The future home of the bridal couple will be Emerald, after their honeymoon at Mackay and Surfers Paradise.

Wedding Bells
Wyer-Jeppesen
A pretty wedding was celebrated in the Borilla Street Presbyterian Church, Emerald, on July 5, at 7 p.m. when Marcia Violet May, third daughter of Mr and Mrs A.
F. Jeppesen, Emerald, was married to Edward Francis, younger son of the late Mr and Mrs W. G. Wyer,
Emerald. Rev. Mr Stevens, Springsure, officiated.
The church was beautifully decorated with white dahlias,
roses, cosmos, daisies and fern by members of the Ladies' Presbyterian Guild.
"To the strains of "Here Comes The Bride" and "Wedding March," played by Mrs C. Dennis, sen., the bride entered the church escorted by her father, who gave her away.
She looked charming in a street length frock of hyacinth satin backed crepe buttoned down the back with an unusual draped bodice and waist treatment, fully flared skirt and new three-quarter length sleeves. The V shaped neckline was finished with a spray of orange blossoms. She wore a blue
straw halo hat with a long veil of blue tulle and carried a cascade bouquet of white roses, tied with satin streamers.
Miss Dorothy Wyer, sister of the bridegroom, was the only attendant. She chose a street length gown of pale green marquisette over satin foundation, made with a heart-shaped neckline, short puff sleeves and fully flared skirt
with peaked cummerbund, finished with a large bow of green
velvet. A doll's hat of pink straw and roses was added and her bouquet comprised pink roses and fern, tied with green streamers. Mr Wesley Jeppesen, brother of the bride, performed the duties of best man. When the bride left the church, her little cousin Jeanee Jeppesen, in a pale pink frock, presented the bride with a horseshoe of flowers.
The reception was held at the residence of Miss Wyer, where Mrs. Jeppesen, mother of the bride, received the guests wearing a frock of black crepe, trimmed with blue flowers and motifs and with a blue yoke. Her black velvet halo hat
was trimmed with blue ribbon. Black accessories were added. She was assisted by Mrs W. Wyer, who wore floral rose patterned crepe de chine, featuring a heart-shaped
neckline, short sleeves and black accessories. The decorations were carried out in pink and blue, with
bowls of roses and matching streamers. A wedding bell was
suspended above the happy couple.
Rev. Mr Stevens presided at the breakfast. Pride of place was given to a two-tiered wedding cake made by Mrs W. Wyer.
The honeymoon is being spent in Mackay and Rockhampton. The
bride travelled in wine coloured wool de chine with hand embroidery in blue wool on the shoulder yokes, pockets and shaped belt. Sleeves were three-quarter length and the bodice had a V neckline. A small wine hat, with cut flowers
of blue felt and black accessories were worn. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a blue sapphire ring. The future home of the bridal couple will be Emerald.

- Military Service: 15 Apr 1942, The Cumberland Argus and Fruitgrowers Advocate; GUILDEORD AIRMAN IS MISSING SERVING IN ENGLAND
News has been received in Guildford that Sergeant Horace E. Rowley, former well known local cricketer, is missing after air operations while serving with the R.A.A.F. in England. He married a Merrylands girl shortly before he sailed for Canada about 12 months ago. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. I. Rowley, respected Guildford residents. His father, a veteran of the last war, is serving with a garrison battalion, and a brother is with the A.I.F. "Everybody in Guildford knew and liked Horace, and we will all be hoping that his wife and parents will soon hear some good news of him", a friend said this week
In a letter to Guildford Comforts Fund, received a few days ago, Sgt. Rowley told how he hoped soon to begin work on "Ops." After thanking the Fund for a parcel of comforts, he said "This time your parcel found me at an operational training unit, just about at the end of my training, so I should be on 'Ops' some time in January.
"I daresay this Jap business is causing a lot of excitement back home, these days. We had high hopes that we might have been shifted nearer home. Many thanks and good luck to you all for your splendid work".
