• Occupations: 1843, Jimbour Station, Darling Downs; Thomas Bell took over the pastoral lease in 1843, and direct management from 1847. At first, Joshua and Alexander managed jointly, but soon entire responsibility fell to Joshua.
• Education: c 1832-1850, Sydney, NSW; Joshua went to the Sydney College and The King's School, Parramatta, and then entered the office of a Sydney solicitor.
• Occupation: 1862, West Moreton electorate; Joshua was elected to parliament but the parliament was dissolved in 1963. He was re-elected to the same electorate and from 1864 to 1866 served as Treasurer in the Herbert and Macalister cabinets.
• Occupation: 1879-1881, Queensland Parliament; He was appointed President of the Legislative Council, and acted as administrator for the colony for nine months during 1880 while Governor Sir Arthur Kennedy was on leave.
• Occupation: 1866-1979, Queensland Parliament; He was Acting Minister for Lands and Works. In 1868, he was returned as member for Northern Downs which included his own property at Jimbour.

Joshua married Margaret Miller Dorsey 19 Feb 1861 (Rites of Church of England), Ipswich, Queensland. Margaret (daughter of William McTaggart Dorsey and Margaret Douglas) was born c 1842, Glascow, Scotland; died 17 Jan 1914, Victoria Private Hospital, Stanley St., Brisbane; was buried 19 Jan 1914, Toowong Cemetery, Brisbane.
