Transcript from: Peter Olsen, Australian Cemeteries Index

Centennial Park Cemetery is a large, 40.5 hectare (or 100 acre) cemetery in the southern Adelaide suburb of Pasadena, located at along Goodwood Road. It is the largest cemetery in the southern suburbs and one of the largest in the Adelaide metropolitan area. It was opened in June 1936, during South Australia's centennial year, although the first burial was not until 1938, when there were only ten in that year. It is jointly owned by the local government areas of the City of Mitcham and the City of Unley, with a Board of Management that includes two serving councillors from each council.
The cemetery contains a war graves plot known locally as Adelaide War Cemetery, established by the Australian Army in 1942, holding the graves of 215 Commonwealth service personnel of World War II primarily from local hospitals. Most of the graves are either side of the central path from the Goodwood Road entrance. In 1946 the Commonwealth War Graves Commission took over the plot and erected a Cross of Sacrifice, the first erected by the commission in the Southern Hemisphere. Near the cross is the South Australia Cremation Memorial to 9 Australian service personnel who were cremated during the same war in the state of South Australia.[1]

that district. After spending a number of years in the Rous district, the late Mrs. Adams removed to Ballina, and after residing there for some years took up residence at Kogarah. A family of sons and daughters survive. Mrs. Clout (Dunoon) is a daughter.

    Obituary
Mr. John Adams Mr. John Adams, whose death occurred at Sawtell last week, formerly resided at Uruuga and Gleniffer and was a well-known and highly respected citizen. His popularity was evidenced by the large number from
Sawtell, Gleniffer and Bellingen who attended his funeral at Bellingen.

He was born in Dorsetshire (England) 77 years ago, but came to Australia as a mere youth with courage, energy, and determination his only assets. He landed in Victoria over
hall a century ago, but did not remain long in the southern State, and came on to New South Wales, where he entered the Navigation Department's service. One of his first appointments was on a dredge stationed on the Bellingen River, and he served there for some years, being transferred in turn to Sydney and then in the Richmond River.

From the Richmond River he again came to the Bellingen, and then relinquished his work with the dredges to settle on the land at Gleniffer, where he purchased a farm from the late Mr. John McFadyen. To this he subsequently added a considerable area and began a very successful career of a farmer and dairyman.

Prior to taking up the farm property Mr. Adams was married to Miss Elizabeth McFadyen, third daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John McFadyen, and she and two sons and four
daughters survive him. Mr. and Mrs. Adams and family resided on the property till five years ago, when
with advancing years Mr. Adams decided to hand the property to his sons to work, while he and Mrs. Adams went to live in retirement at Sawtell, together with their daughter, Miss Elizabeth Adams.

Normally the late Mr. Adams enjoyed good health, though on occasionS he suffered with slight indispositions. On Sunday week he appeared to be inu his normal health, but about 4 o'clock on Monday morning Mrs. Adams heard him get out of bed and walk about the house. Later he returned to his room and went to bed. Mrs. Adams rose shortly alter six to make a cup of tea, and as Mr. Adams did not come out as usual she went to his room and made the sad discovery that he had apparently passed away. She hurriedly sought the help of neighbors and a doctor was called, when death was pronounced.

Referring to the deceased, the "Raliegh Sun" says he commanded the highest respect in every field, of acquaintance. He was always candid in his comment, honest to the last degree, had a clear conception of his
duties to his family and his fellow man, and fought for all that was right and just. He took a keen interest in the welfare of the primary produce, was one of the members of the directorate of the old Gleniffer butler factory, and rendered generous assistance to all district matters during
his term of residence at Gleniffer and Sawtell. He was ever a man's man, frank and just, and his word was always his bond.

In the passing of John Adams the district loses one of
its most worthy members, and to the bereaved widow, the sons George and Jack, and the daughters, Mrs. Alf.
King (Florence), Miss Elizabeth, Mrs. Rose (Ivy Iris), and Mrs. Keith Campbell (Eva May), the deepest sympathy is extended.

All Saints parish church, situated on the northern edge of the village, has a claim to being one of the finest village churches in Dorset
The south doorway and piers of the chancel arch are Norman; the doorway inside the porch features typically Norman zigzag decoration. The tower dates from 1485 and has twin-light bell openings, numerous pinnacles and gargoyles. The nave and aisles are also 15th-century
Over the west door of the church-tower is the Latin inscription: "Est pydeltrenth villa in dorsedie comitatu Nascitur in illa quam rexit Vicariatu 1487". The inscription translates as: "It is in Piddletrenthide, a town in Dorset [where] he was born [and] is Vicar, 1487." As the vicar in that year was Nicholas Locke, presumably the tower was dedicated to him.
In 1852 the building was restored and the walls raised by John Hicks, the brother of the incumbent vicar.
