Donald V. Agidius, 77, a longtime resident of The Dalles died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at a care facility in Tualatin.
He was born Aug. 22, 1929, to Adolf (Babe) and Dorothy Agidius. He graduated from The Dalles High School in 1947. After high school, he served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Following his time in the Army he attended Oregon State University and graduated in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in agriculture engineering/technology. While working for International Harvester in Portland, he met his wife Adele. They were married on Oct 26, 1957.
He was a local cherry orchardist. He was general manager of The Dalles Cooperative Growers/The Dalles Cherry Growers for approximately 25 years. During his time at the Cherry Growers, he worked on the installation of a fresh cherry packing line and installed a state-of-the-art vacuum pan system to process frozen black cherries to be used in ice cream. He also installed the first inline hydrocooler used in a fresh packing line. After his time at The Cherry Growers, he worked as a consultant for Stadelman Fruit.
His hobbies included vacationing with his family, reading, fishing, and photography.
Survivors include his son Mike, wife Gigi and sons Alex and Marcus, Walla Walla, Wash.; daughter Carol, husband Jobe and son Owen, Tigard; son Steve, wife Dawn and sons Austin and Cody, The Dalles; son Ben, wife Ericka and sons Kayden, Kylan and Korben, Wenatchee, Wash.; his brother Lee and wife Rose, The Dalles; and four nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Adele in 1995.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 3, at 2 p.m. at Spencer, Libby & Powell with burial to follow at IOOF Cherry Heights Cemetery.
