Anthony "Tony" Aluisi was born on November 22, 1943, and passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013. He was the first born to first generation Italian-American parents, Julius Aluisi and Christina Damiano Aluisi. He was soon joined by his two brothers, Tim and Terry, and his three sisters, Debra, Marianne and Rosanna. He was raised in a very traditional Italian home and much was asked of him as the oldest child. He learned very early the value of hard work and always carried one and more often two jobs. Tony never failed at anything and brought great pride to himself and his family. Tony attended and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1961. He then attended and graduated from Fresno State University. After graduation, he taught math and coached baseball at Dos Palos High School, Fort Miller Junior High School and Tioga Junior High School. Tony joined the United States Army National Guard and then transferred to the California Air National Guard where he served for six years.
Tony reopened his father's floor covering business under its original name, A & A Distributing. He later changed the name to, Quality Carpets Design Center, and that business is still successfully operated in Clovis, Ca. by Tony and his wife Susan. Tony was an outstanding athlete and excelled at many sports including track where he was the state record holder in the 880 and 1320. This earned him the honor of carrying the Olympic Torch to the 1960 Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley, Ca. One of Tony's greatest loves was softball. He played on six national champion teams for the California Air National Guard and was selected to the "All American" All Stars Team at that tournament each and every year. He played third base for many of the finest fast pitch softball teams in the valley. After retiring from softball, Tony found time to compete at his next great love golf. He belonged to several golf clubs in Fresno. He remained an avid golfer until his recent illness and death.
Tony is preceded in death by his father, Julius Aluisi; mother, Christina Aluisi; son-in-law, Paul Santos; ex-wife, Sandy Jones Aluisi; and very recently, his granddaughter, Taylor Santos. Tony is survived by many, many friends and a very large family; wife Susan; daughters, Sophia Santos and Jose, and Cassandra Aluisi and Al; grandchildren, Troy, Dylan, Jordan, Jose Jr., Darly, and Austin; great-grandson Curtis; his brothers, Tim and his wife Cathy, Terry and CynDee; his three sisters, Debra Ceja and husband Robert, Marianne Kozub and husband Jim, and Rosanna Beato and husband Giuseppe; as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. Tony's greatest joy was being with his family.
He loved everyone so much. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin. We will truly miss him with all our hearts. It must be said that our Tony was the most loyal, honest and loved person that we have ever known. Our entire family respected and loved him beyond measure. It would be impossible to tell you just how much we will miss him. Our lives are forever changed. Please pray for him and all of us left behind. Until that day! Your Loving Family.
We want to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff of Saint Agnes Medical Center, for the loving care that Tony received during the 18 weeks of his hospitalization. We will forever be grateful to Dr. Levy, Dr. Saul, Dr. Thomson, Dr. Reyes, Sister Emily, Josh, Curtis, John B., Diane, Shanda, Mel, Irma, Ken, Rory, Ashley, Stephanie and Xoey. We also, want to thank the nutrition services Director Mike McDevitt, Chef Gilbert and the rest of their staff.
Visitation will be held at Farewell Funeral Service on Sunday, November 24, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held at Clovis Cemetery on Monday, November 25, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to Stanford University Amyloidosis Research Clinic, Boswell Building, Room A260, 300 Pasteur Drive, Stanford, Ca. 94305.
