    OBITUARY
    MR. H. J. M. CHRISTENSEN
As one who had witnessed the progress of settlement of the Pialba district for more than half a century and shared in the pioneering work, the death of another of the sturdy, old Danish settlers, Mr. Hans Jorgen Marius Christensen, is recorded with regret. Mr. Christensen passed away at midday yesterday. He was born in Denmark and celebrated his 84th birth on the twentieth of this month. He was married in Denmark and came out to Australia with his wife and a family of two, about 52 or 53 years ago. On arrival at Maryborough he and his family went to Pialba, where Mr. Christensen was employed at carpentering and farm work. Pialba in those early days was little more than than a settlement and the amenities of life were few. However, finding the work a new country to his liking, he progressed and finally took up a property on the Dundowran Mountain-road, and for many years he engaged in general farming pursuits and dairying, the late Mr. Christensen is survived by his widow, whose maiden name was Miss Ane Thomina Thompson, and a family of six sons- Messrs. Janus, Carl, and Fred (Nikenbah), Anton (Toquay), Albert (Maryborough) and Martin (BaupIe)-and five daughters, Mesdames T. Hebblewhlte (Nikenbah), J. Readdy (Gympie), W. Clarke (Maryborough), J. Lenehan (Townsville), Miss C. Christensen (Townsville). Two daughters predeceased him several years ago. The late Mr. Christensen is also survived by 37 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren The funeral will move from his late residence for the Nikenbah Cemetery at 2.30 o'clock this afternoon.
