OBITUARY
We regret to chronicle the death of Mr. John Bell, of Yangan, which sad event occurred rather suddenly on Monday, the predisposing cause being senile decay. The late Mr. Bell, who was 83 years of age, was born in County Armagh, Ireland, and came to Queensland in 1854. He was perhaps the oldest resident of the Yangan district, having for many years bean a shepherd on Canning Downs station, and will be remembered in this walk of life by many old identities. Later he took up a farm about a mile of the Killarney side of Yangan and became a successful agriculturist. A short time ago he sold this property to Mr. T. Bourke, and built a nice cottage adjoining the Anglican Church in Yangan, where his sad demise occurred. The late Mr. Bell was a splendid type of the early colonist, who braved undaunted the trials and vicissitudes that were the lot of those who "blazed" the trail" when Queensland was young. He was universally respected for the sterling honesty of his character and or his many splendid qualities as a man. He leaves a large family to mourn their irreparable loss, and we join with his extensive circle of friends in expressing our deep sympathy with the bereaved. The funeral will take place at Yangan at 11 o'clock to-day.
