BIRT-EDWARDS
A wedding of interest to a large circle of friends in the Woolooga district was solemnised in the Presbyterian Church, Gympie, on September 3, the Rev Gregson, of Murgon, officiating, when Helen Isabella ("Peggy"), eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Edwards of Woolooga, was joined in the holy bonds of matrimony to James Thomas Neils, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Birt, Scarness.
The bride, who was given away by her father, entered the church to the strains of the "Wedding March." She chose a gown of white brocade made on tight-fitting lines falling into a long train. The bodice featured tight fitting sleeves and small buttons and loops at back to the waist line; she wore a long embroidered tulle veil and orange blossoms and carried a bouquet of narcissus, lilies and orchids.
The bride's three sisters attended as bridesmaids, gowned alike in pale green sheer georgette and white halo hats, with green trimmings and white shoes, and carried bouquets of white stocks. Mr. R. Birt, of Gunalda, attended his brother as best man, and Mr. Edges as groomsman.
After the ceremony a reception was held at the Sunshine Cafe, the Rev. Gregson presiding. The customary toasts were cordially honoured. Pride of place on the table was held by a beautiful two-tier wedding cake, made and iced by Mrs. Ted Pike, Woolooga.
The guests were received by the bride's mother gowned in navy satin beaute with matching hat; she carried a bouquet of red sweet peas.
The bride's dress was made by Miss A. Anderson, Pialba, and the bouquets by Mrs. Meirs, Woolooga.
The young couple left later by car on an extended touring trip, the bride travelling in a black pony skin frock made with bolero, and pink georgette blouse and accessories to match.
