Obituary
JESSEN-Catherine Helene (Kay) Catherine Helene (Kay) Jessen died peacefully in Calgary on March 28, 2003 surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her beloved husband Andy and son Carl; survived by her sister Hilda Jackson of Calgary; daughters, Diane, (Vince Hunter), Linda (Martin Crickett), and Cathy (David Pollard); and sons, John (Judith) and Lewis (Linda). Grandchildren, Tommy, Jennifer, Jaime, Jasmine, Jessica, Erik, Carl, Mackenzie; and the eminent arrival of her first great-grandchild. Born September 12, 1914 on the farm to Alberta pioneers Carl and Anna Olson, Kay grew up as the Prairie Belle of Oyen. She later moved to Calgary where on a blind date she met and charmed Andy, her husband of forty-nine years. In 1956 the family of seven moved to Toronto and twenty-eight years later Kay and Andy returned to the place they called home, Calgary. Kay was always involved in life around her and dedicated her time and energy in many volunteer activities, which encompassed her community, church and charitable organizations. She was a wonderful role model to her children and grandchildren as a loving mother and dedicated wife. Kay will always be remembered by all who knew her for her charm, selflessness and genuine love of people. She experienced life to the fullest with a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W. (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Monday, March 31, 2003 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Foster's Garden Chapel on Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Kay's family would appreciate donations to the memorial fund for the Carewest George Boyack Centre, which will enhance the quality of life for economically disadvantaged residents of the home. Donations should be addressed to Kay Jessen Trust Account-Carewest-George Boyack, 1203 Centre Avenue East, Calgary, Alberta T2E 0A5. FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, Directors.
