Obituary 21 May 1903  Adelaide Find all individuals with events at this location
Mrs. Agnes Teague, who died at West Adelaide on Saturday last, was 89 years of age and a colonist of over 60 years. She was born in Mylor Parish, Cornwall, in 1813, her father being a well to do farmer, of Scotch descent, Mr. Benjamin Lawrence. She landed in Sydney, with her first husband, the late Mr. William Stevens, and was aboard ship on the voyage out from England when Queen Victoria was crowned at Westminster Abbey in 1837. For nine years after arriving in Adelaide Mr. and Mrs. Stevens kept a store on the south side of Rundle street, and subsequently followed farming pursuits on the Gawler plains. About 19 years ago, after the death of her first husband, the deceased married Mr. Thomas Teague, a well known Napperby farmer, with whom she spent nine years at Napperby, and the balance of her life in Adelaide. Prior to the setting in of senile decay, two years before her demise, Mrs. Teague was never known to have suffered a single ailment. She was a welcome visitor at the house of sickness, and was much beloved. Her husband did not long survive her. He had been unwell for a few days, but on Wednesday a little improvement was noticed in his condition. He was sitting in his armchair in the afternoon when he passed peacefully away. He was 78 years af age, and the cause of death was heart failure.
