  Life Story	Flora Beryl Brightwell. She was my husband's beloved grandmother. "Bea" died Sept 2, 1993 in Lancaster, Los Angeles County, California, USA. She lead an extraordinary life that included living her young adult life in China, being held captive by the Japanese in a Philippine POW camp, and immigrating to the United States with little more than what she wore on her person. She was a favorite of everyone and fiercely loyal to whom she loved. She was married to George Albert Smith on August 5, 1922 at British Consulate & All Saints' Church, Tientsin, China. Divorced (Australia) 1949, Sydney, New South Wales. Mr. Smith died at Jervis Bay on July 15, 1953 and interred at Presbyterian Cemetery, Botany, New South Wales. After coming to the USA, Bea married Hector Cone, whom she met while in the POW camp. He died a short time later of cancer. She married Eugene E. Ball August 3, 1961. Mr. Ball had survived the Death March of Bataan. Listening to them top each other in war stories could keep you captive (pardon the pun) for hours. Especially since her daughter, Joan Smith, had met her husband to be, Jesse Wilson, in the camp Philippine camp of Los Banos as well. As told by 'Barbara Orsborn' (15th January 2011)
