- Funeral: 16 Apr 2013, Fraser Coast Chronicle; Hundreds say farewell to one of the Coast's true gentlemen
PHOTOGRAPHY, poetry, nature, horses-Wilson Thomsen was a man of many passions.
But most of all he was a man who loved his community and adored his family, and that was evident on Monday as hundreds of family and friends gathered at Maryborough's St Stephen's Church to say their final farewells.
Born on September 1, 1937 to Brooweena cattle farmers Noble and Jessie Thomsen, Wilson was a brother to Clyde, Ivan, Nora and Hazel.
His interest in photography began at a young age and his first darkroom was set up in his bedroom at Brooweena.
At age 25 he met Narelle, the woman who would soon become his wife, the love of his life, and go on to be the mother of their two daughters Karleila and Kimberley.
All the while his passion and flair for photography grew and he was doing more and more photography jobs for people, eventually resulting in Wilson and Narelle leaving the land to establish Thomsen's Photographic Gallery in Maryborough.
He was incredibly proud when, after his retirement, Kimberly continued the business under the same name.
Wilson was an active member of the Lions Club of Maryborough and a regular at working bees, sausage sizzles and the Driver Revivers. After decades of service he had well and truly earned his life membership.
He was among those who fought the government- and won-from building the Traveston Dam on the Mary River. He loved his poetry and learning new writing skills.
But above all he was a devoted family man-he loved and protected his "three girls"-Narelle, Karleila and Kimberly- and doted on his three grandchildren Eldon, Matilda and Lincoln.
He was a cherished son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law and uncle and, of course, a friend.
Wilson died peacefully, surrounded by his beloved family, last Wednesday.
